This year we celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th birthday, its 50th anniversary, and the 10th edition of SAIL, a unique triple anniversary!

SAIL was first organized in 1975 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of our capital. What began as a one-off initiative, thanks to its success, grew into the largest open-access event in the Netherlands and the largest event on and around the water in Europe.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 edition was canceled. That’s why this anniversary edition in 2025 will be extra special. A celebration for all ages, connecting people, cultures, and stories, showcasing what makes the Netherlands, Waterland, so unique.

SAIL Amsterdam 2025 will take place from 20 to 24 August. With more than two million visitors expected, it is anticipated that there will be heavy traffic in and around Amsterdam, and there will be various road closures and diversions.
